We’re thrilled to announce that the 5th Edition of the KIT for Kids Bike Day Event is rolling your way this June! Hosted by Hope Worldwide & Keep It Tight Cycling — in partnership with the Boston Police Department  — the event returns Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at English High School in Jamaica Plain.

Five years strong, and this event keeps getting better. KIT for Kids isn’t just a bike day — it’s a movement built on the simple but powerful idea that every child deserves the freedom and joy of riding a bike. This year, we’re expanding even further:

  • More Participants: Welcoming over 25 children ages 7-12.
  • More Volunteers:  We’re upping the ratio of volunteers to kids to 2:1…over 50 volunteers!
  • More Activities: A full skills course, bike safety drills, “bike adventure” challenges, and face-painting

What to Expect

Each child will move through a series of interactive stations where they’ll:

  • Learn how to ride, balance, corner, and signal safely

  • Perform basic bike maintenance like inflating tires and checking brakes

  • Navigate fun ramps and obstacle courses

  • Tasty snacks and a full lunch!

After mastering all activities, participants will earn their Bike Safety Certificate — proof that they’re ready to ride safely and confidently. And the best part? Every child will leave with a brand-new bike, helmet, and lock — free of charge. The smiles are real, the confidence is real, and the difference this makes in a child’s life is immeasurable.

Why We Ride

Many of the kids who attend KIT for Kids have never owned a bike, let alone had the chance to ride one. We’re not just teaching skills; we’re building confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of movement.

We Need You

Making dreams happen takes a village. We’re actively seeking donations to fund the purchase of bikes, helmets, and locks. No contribution is too small — every dollar pedals us closer to empowering a child. You can support this life-changing event by donating here.

In its third year, the event is expanding the number of participants, volunteers and activities.  This year there will be a focus skills, safety and basic bike maintenance.  Upon completion of all stations and activities, the kids will receive a Bike Safety Certificate. The kids will learn how to ride bikes, use hand signals, corner, balance, and even go over a bike ramp!  To get a feel for the event, check out this video on YouTube and this article in the Jamaica Plain Gazette.

What is KIT for Kids Bike Day?  The goal is to get kids on bikes, teach them how to ride safely, and perform basic maintenance on their own.  The event serves a community of children, ages 7-12 years old, who have not had the opportunity to learn to ride.  It is free and will incorporate several bike activities focusing on learning to ride, safety, and skills.  Bikes and helmets will be provided.

Each child who completes the entire event will go home with a brand-new bike, helmet, and lock.

As such, we are actively seeking donations.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.
