KIT for Kids Bike Day

Given all that’s been going on in the world with racial inequality, I had been thinking about how KIT can help out or make an impact in the world. My goal was to take action (as a club) and show support by doing something for people less fortunate and/or impacted by racial inequality.

After brainstorming with Richard Hislop (club member, local pastor, and co-creator of this event) and several other members of the club, we came up with a solid idea that quickly started to take shape.

On October 24th, 2020, we will be hosting the 1st Annual Bike Day for Kids, presented by Keep It Tight Cycling and HOPE Worldwide .

The 1st Annual Bike Day for Kids will serve a community of kids, ages 5-12 years old, from Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury. It is free and will incorporate several bike activities focusing on learning to ride, safety, and skills.  It’s going to be AWESOME!  Lunch will be provided for all.

This being our first event, we thought it would be helpful to collaborate with another organization. HOPE Worldwide brings to the table the social understanding of the population we will be serving, and can provide insight on how to compassionately engage the children. KIT brings to the table the technical expertise to train the kids on riding bikes, bike safety, and repair – giving them a sense of accomplishment. I hope this becomes an annual event.

Covid-19 precautions will be in effect. The event will be held outside and masks will be required. Social distancing will be maintained as much as possible. We’re capping the event at 18 kids.

Update 10/8/20:  The event is FULL!
